An Early, Cold Morning Needs a Big Breakfast

My kids conspire against me, I’m sure of it. They must know the nights I really need sleep and am finally sleeping good, they choose those to wake up super early. Both of them. And of course it’s a morning Brent went in early. Ugh. Needless to say I might be napping with them later. I want to go to the gym because I sure could use the energy, but I have to time it right because the weather here is going from rain to snow. I trust in my driving skills, but we all know that many people in the south can’t handle anything but dry roads.

This weekend was a pretty exciting one, as Brent and I signed the contract to have our house built! We have been living here in Oklahoma for almost 4 years, in a great neighborhood and house, but the house is getting much to small. When we moved here, his company told us not to buy anything because we weren’t going to be here more than a couple of years. Fast forward to three and a half years later, we have made a great life here with our friends and church, and we don’t want to leave right now. Plus, with two small kids, my family is only three hours away and I really love getting to go see them every month. When we get in to our new house, there will be plenty of room for them to come visit too! We picked a neighborhood about 10 minutes from ours now, I didn’t want to be far from our friends here. Our lot is covered in trees and is almost an acre. The houses are far apart and we can really make it exactly what we want. It should be finished in July or August. Hurry up summer!!

Another thing I found this weekend was Ben and Jerry’s Greek Frozen Yogurt!

I had the BananaPeanut Butter one. Oh my goodness it was delicious. I love peanut butter and banana sandwiches, so this was perfect for me. It isn’t much healthier than regular ice cream, or even the low fat ice cream from Ben and Jerry’s. I do appreciate that they put it in these tiny single serve containers. That’s all I buy, because if I get the pint, I lose all will power. Either way, it was delicious!! Serving size is key!

For breakfast this morning, I made a breakfast sandwich. I have been eating the Jimmy Dean ones, and they are really good. The other day I bought the Special K version – not as good. The flatbread was not nearly as flavorful as the English muffin. We usually get our dairy products at Braums, so Brent came home with some sugar free bread last night. Two slices is 90 calories, so I made two egg whites, one slice of turkey deli meat, and a slice of pre-sliced provolone. My sandwich was only 230 calories, and much bigger than the frozen ones. More economical to make them at home, plus it was fresh! And on this super cold rainy morning, I needed a hot breakfast with staying power.

I went shopping yesterday to use some gift cards I got for my birthday, and everything I bought was size small. It has been a really long time since I’ve bought a small in anything. I think changing up my routine has definitely helped. I am doing interval running for 30 minutes at a time, almost every day. I have been using the Couch25k app on my phone so I don’t have to pay attention to the time, it’s great. Also I’ve been doing my Jillian Michaels 30 Day Shred DVD almost every day. And eating more calories. And 4 days a week I add in about 20 minutes of another cardio too, the stair climber, stationary bicycle, etc. It keeps it from getting boring, and keeps my body guessing what I’m doing.

So thanks for all the encouragement and tips, especially Suzanne from FitMindedMom. I have been friends with her a long time and she gave me some great advice. Have a great Tuesday!
